·         North Korea declared that it had detonated its first hydrogen bomb.
·         The maximum characters allowed in a Tweet are 140. Twitter is exploring increasing its limits on text to as many as 1000.
·         The union cabinet approves closure of HMT Watches. Two unviable units of the public sector company, HMT Chinar watches and HMT Bearings, are also to be shut down.
·         Emission control: India to go straight to BS – VI from 2020. (leapfrog from Bharat Stage-IV to BS-VI)

·         Mumbai school cricketer Pranav Dhanwade became the first player in the world to score 1000 runs (1009 runs not out off 323 balls) in a single innings, surpassing a 117 year old record held by AEJ Collin’s who scored 628 in 1899.
Dhanwade is a student of class 10 of KC Gandhi school, Kalyan.

SBI to set up special branch for catering exclusively to the growing banking needs of startup companies at Bangaluru.

IDBI raised 1900 crores through 2 different separate Basel III compliant tier II bonds on private placement basis. In december, SBI had raised 4000 crore by issuing tier II bonds on private placement basis under the Basel III norms.

RBI imposed penalty of 1 crore on SBI for violation on reporting data to CRILC. Banks are required to report credit information including SMA (Special Mention Accounts) to CRILC on all borrowers having aggregate Fund based and non fund based exposure of Rs.5 crore and above with them.
